ne of our goals at the YWCA
Out & Affirmation Center is to construct an on-line resource directory of
businesses and professional service providers who wish to be known as friendly
and affirming to our local lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)
community. We welcome your listing if you are welcoming to us and our families,
knowledgeable about our lives in regard to your field or expertise, or are
connected to our community in some way.
Click on any of the following
to view the resource directory for that category.
We are providing this directory
as a public service to our local community, and thus there is no charge for
listings. All we ask is that you draft a brief statement of your support and
affirmation of our local LGBT community, which will be included with your name
and contact information. We can help you draft that brief statement, and we have
included below a list of sample statements for your reference.
Sample Statements:
Contracting:
As a household/remodeling contractor,
I can't help but to see the details of people's lives when I do my work. When you let
me into your home, my employees and I will be respectful and we will work with you and
your family in a professional and supportive manner. Your home is your oasis from the
world; I want to help you build, remodel, or renovate it to suit your needs.
Financial:
As a financial planner, I know that
long-term planning for unmarried partners is different and more complicated than for
married couples. Not only would I welcome your business, but I also keep current on
the financial challenges and the range of solutions you might have to consider. I can
also make LGBT-friendly referrals for legal, accounting, and other professional
services to coordinate with your financial plans.
Medical:
As a regional health care provider
to Southwest Michigan, we are committed to providing quality service to all members
of our community. At the same time, we recognize that you, your partner, and your
family have health care concerns that are different from the general population.
We promise that our caregivers will respect your life and relationships to the
extent that they are legally able, and we will take immediate corrective action
if you are treated in a less than professional manner. And given the absence of
legal rights for unmarried partners, we need your help to assure that your inpatient
visitation and emergency needs will be facilitated by the persons of your choice.
Whether or not you have already used our services, please stop by our patient
records department and complete our in-house forms for medical power of attorney
and prior directives, and keep them on file with us as well as your physicians.
Recreational:
As a community fitness center,
our primary concern is for the health and well being of our all of our members
and their families. We welcome LGBT individuals, friends, and families, and we
provide the exact same fitness packages for all families and households.
Retail:
As your local retail outlet for
fine gifts and jewelry, we not only provide the best possible service to our
customers but we also fully welcome you and your family. We are lesbian owned,
and we assure you that there is no need to conceal your identity or relationships
in your casual conversation. Plus there is every reason to let us help you find
something for that special someone in your life, whomever he or she may be.
If you are interested in being
listed, please
click here to download or print the application form. Simply fill it out,
return it to us, and we'll get you into the directory as soon as possible. And
if you have any questions, please give us a call at the Center: 985-9622.
